INCONSPICUOUS HERO

A historical musical project by Julie Kusano

Project Overview

A historical musical about compassion, courage, and the power of quiet resistance.

Role: Writer

Format: Feature Film / Historical Musical

Set in 1910s Chicago, Inconspicuous Hero is the true story of Jane Addams, the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. As war and hatred rise, she refuses to support nationalism and instead forms a women-led movement to deliver food to war-torn Europe. For her beliefs, she is branded a traitor and Hull House is attacked. Facing illness, she rediscovers hope in the voices of orphaned children who rise against violence through music. Inspired by her encounter with a deaf boy named Taku and his mother Kinu, Jane transforms from a fragile girl into a spiritual mother of peace. A moving historical musical about compassion, courage, and the power of quiet resistance.

Writer Statement · Vision / Mission

Inside you lies an inconspicuous hero.

Inconspicuous Hero is more than a historical drama. It is a story about living true to oneself and trusting the voice within. Through the journey of Jane Addams and the many unsung heroes around her, the series seeks to remind audiences: Inside you lies an inconspicuous hero. Can you believe it?

We hope viewers leave not only with a deeper understanding of history, but with renewed courage to face their own lives.

For the cast, director, and creative team, this project is designed to be one they will always look back on with pride—knowing they gave voice and honor to heroes who had long remained in the shadows.
